It's been a while; I've been on a trip with Iva through Italy, and ate a lot of pizza! We were quite lucky with the weather. It wasn't particulary hot, but way warmer than it is right now! Now I'm back in Zagreb again, our trip took about a week. Not very long, but many impressions. We've been to Venice, Florence, Pisa, and on the way back made a stop in Ljubljana where I finally met Jana and her boyfriend!
So let's start with Venice. Really, amazing city if I say so myself. Reminds me slightly of Amsterdam, but it's smaller and cuter. It's impossible not to get lost on your first day, but since it's so small, you'll eventually find the way back. Venice is divided by one big Canal, and in between the little islands there's a lot of water and mostly very small streets and bridges. Quite an expensive city though, and very touristic if you come to visit in summer. We stayed at a nice hostel for 2 nights, and saw quite a bit of the city. Also there's a lot of masks! There's no other place in Italy that offers masks like they make them in Venice; simply great craftmanship.
After Venice we went to Florence, also a very touristic city if you visit it in summer. We were there not even a week ago, and the lines to the museums were already big. Not that I care that much about musea, but Iva does. There's many different old buildings in Florence that really add to its character, but the atmosphere is nothing special. I definitely wouldn't want to live there! I think I would prefer Rome, but I'll go there sometime when it's more sunny, and have more money! On the second day in Florence we took a train to Pisa and visited the square with the famous tower and stuff. Looks very nice!
I must say though, that my opinion on religion kind of ruins the experience of seeing these big creations of faith. On one side I see a beautiful building, on another side I can't help but think: "What a waste of time, financed by money stolen from the people". But I suppose this is true for most sights in the world. You take a look at most world wonders they appear magnificent, but most of them are build by slaves, in times of empires that are responsible for the death and slaughter of millions of people.
Even thought the worth of these buildings diminish with this in the background, I do think it's important to realize the raw truth behind the illusionary beauty of what we see. This definitely counts for me, because if I don't, I'll just get swallowed up by my senses, which is senseless. But in the end, I'm happy that I've had a chance to see this stuff, but more importantly for me is that I had a nice trip together with Iva.
On the way back to Zagreb we stopped at Ljubljana and slept over at Jana's place. I remember I was in the bus, and suddenly I saw this girl waiting at the next stop. We got closer and I was like "omg it's her!". It was very nice to finally meet her, and it didn't feel strange at all actually. Also I met her boyfriend, who's a really nice guy. We talked about all sorts of stuff, and the next day me and Iva went to see some of the city. LJ is small, but very cute. It's quite old and has some nice architecture, and a good atmosphere.
Now I'm back in Zagreb; it's freezing and I'm a bit ill, so there's no way I'm leaving the house! All in all, Italy is definitely worth seeing, but if you're looking for the best pizza you should check Napels; I heard from many people that's where the real Pizza Paradise is at!
